esure case study

The client

esure is a FTSE 250 listed business that offers insurance products to almost two million drivers, home owners, pet owners and holiday makers across the UK. The company was launched in 2001 and also owns Sheilas’ Wheels, the leading female-focused insurance brand and Gocompare, one of the UK’s most successful price comparison websites.

The challenge

BrightPool was retained by esure to source a new CIO to be accountable at Executive level for ensuring the technology infrastructure and services esure use are fit for purpose, efficient, cost effective and aligned to the business objectives and strategic plan. The organisation was keen to ensure a broad search strategy focussing on core insurance markets but also include wider sectors such as gaming, online retail and digital.

The solution

In full consultation with esure our in-house research function created a bespoke search strategy to generate a market map of the CIO landscape within the chosen sectors and geographies. We also produced a suite of high quality collateral to provide to candidates outlining the organisation, its strategy and employer value proposition.

As the position was vacant, our sister business, Interim Partners, was successful in quickly providing a high quality interim manager as CIO to ensure momentum on critical change programmes was maintained. Following a rigorous search process using our specified methodology we were able to produce a longlist of ten CIO candidates and assessed each of them face to face against the agreed brief and submitted a shortlist of six candidates for discussion with our client including the incumbent interim manager provided by our Group.

The results

Following a multi-stage interview process with the HR Director and Chief Operating Officer, a CIO was appointed from the shortlist delivered by BrightPool who possessed the technical ability, executive gravitas and leadership skills required to fulfill the brief.
